Osborne & Laszlo:
2009 L.A. County Volunteers of
the Year

Lisa Osborne and
Mickey Laszlo are
recognized as 'Los
Angeles County Volunteers of the
Year' by
the Los Angeles
County Board of
Supervisors.
(l-r):
First District
Supervisor
Gloria Molina;
Lisa
Osborne; Fifth
District Supervisor
Michael
Antonovich;
Mickey
Laszlo; and
Fourth District
Supervisor
Don Knabe.
Mickey Laszlo and
Lisa Osborne have
volunteered to
co-host the annual
Marina del Rey
Holiday Boat Parade
for the past four
and five years,
respectively.
Providing lively and
colorful commentary
and descriptions of
the entries during
the Parade from
Burton W. Chace
Park, Mickey and
Lisa have assisted
the Department of
Beaches and Harbors,
the Marina del Rey
Holiday Boat Parade
Board of Directors
and the community of
Marina del Rey.
They also further
extend their
services by
co-hosting at the
Parade’s annual
volunteer and VIP
party and awards
program.

Mickey is the host
of The Play List, a
music show on Cox
Communications Cable
Network. Off
camera, her voice is
heard on various
cartoons, audio
shows, and Internet
training programs.
For several years,
she alerted Southern
Californians to
morning traffic
trouble as the
traffic reporter of
the Emmy-award
winning morning news
team on Channel 7
Eyewitness News.
She has also been
heard across the
Southland on radio
stations such as KFI
AM 640, KLOS 95.5FM
and KGGI 99.1.

Mickey loves to
donate her time and
services to many
other community
events and local
groups that need her
help. Since 2001,
she has devoted her
time to The Pet
Place, a television
show on KDOC-TV that
promotes the
adoption of homeless
animals and
showcases local
shelters and rescue
groups. She has
also been involved
in local fundraisers
that are dedicated
to finding causes of
cancer, Alzheimer’s,
and muscular
dystrophy. When
needed, she also
donates her
announcing talents
to Hitea O’Tara, a
Tahitian dance
troupe, for its
fundraisers and
local competitions.

Year after year,
Mickey sacrifices
her personal and
professional time
while volunteering
to help the County.
She always keeps her
calendar open for
the Marina del Rey
Holiday Boat Parade
day and never turns
down an invitation
to co-host the
Parade.
Lisa is also
involved with
non-profits and
local community
groups, assisting
children and
families in Southern
California. Lisa is
a national radio
host and creator of
Lisa.fm, an
online radio network
that develops
self-empowerment
themed radio
programs and content
for on-air and the
Internet. In 2000,
Lisa created
Traffic411, one of
the first real-time
traffic websites,
providing real-time
roadway information
to a dozen U.S.
cities online at
Traffic411.com.

Always willing to
offer a helping hand
for local events,
Lisa forgoes airtime
on her radio show
and a day’s pay to
announce the
Parade. Though she
must also arrange
for an auxiliary
host to cover for
her during her time
away from the show,
Lisa continues to
accommodate her
services to the
County, giving of
herself freely,
without complaint.
During her
announcing duties,
Lisa keeps up the
pace by introducing
children from the
audience, inviting
them to be more than
spectators, and
having them join her
in singing Christmas
carols.

Mickey and Lisa both
exemplify the 2009
Volunteer of the
Year theme,
“Volunteers are Sun-sational!”
Mickey demonstrates
a great
responsiveness in
service and exhibits
a high level of
commitment to County
service. During the
parade, Mickey is
often swamped with
fans seeking her
autograph. She is
able to fulfill
these requests while
continuing to report
on the boats coming
down the main
channel, always
pulling it off
beautifully without
a break in the
parade announcing.

Lisa always displays
a can-do attitude
while devoting her
time and talents.
She also brings with
her years of
professionalism as a
communicator and
public broadcaster,
adding to the
illumination of
lights and happy
spirits that fill
the air of the
Marina during the
Holiday Boat
Parade.
We are
proud to nominate
Mickey Laszlo and
Lisa Osborne, two
valued volunteers,
for their many years
of dedication to
County service.
